St Lucia Boat Cruises
The main attraction in St Lucia is by far the Estuary Boat Cruise to see Hippo and Crocodile. This is a World Wide Tourist Attraction and everyone should go on it least once. Well, at least once every Holiday Season.
It is fun to keep up with the baby Hippos' life cycle as they mature and accumulate scars into adulthood. The Male fracas for dominance and their territorial demarcation of the Estuary, Mud Flats, and Grasslands.

Deep-Sea Fishing
The second biggest Tourist Attraction is Fishing and probably Deep Sea Fishing. The local skippers/charters have a vast knowledge of where what species is hiding and most launches result in successful catches.
Young and old find this a very attractive, although a very expensive proposition. The results of the pure adrenaline experience are worth the price.

Recreational Rock and Surf
The foundation that paved the way to The Tourism Industry in St Lucia Estuary. Still, the one place that bridges any gap between father and son and father and daughter. No other sport had to mend so many relationships and no other sport or activities have forged so many patriarchal memories.

Al tough the World Heritage Status has turned their back on these activities/sport, but the fishing fraternity will prove their net worth to the Tourism Industry. Fishing knows no religion, age, or political affiliation. Fishing is the best common ground for forging bonds.

Book your next fishing holiday in St Lucia Estuary. With 4u2Stay and we will make it a memorable one. We can arrange from Shark fishing to spinning and deep-sea fishing.
We are all Born2Fish and forced to work.

Flat Fish and Shark fishing are very popular. It is a catch and releases sport and the anglers take pride when releasing these lovely specimens. These fishing can be done on medium tackle from 11kg upwards. Mostly on sliding, but also on a very interesting rig called a dingle dangle.

Very unique way of setting a hook with bait hanging from the hook. Also a very effective way of catching the bottom feeders like sand sharks and rays. The best bait for large sharks is sand sharks and rays. People swim almost anything to catch big sharks. Even 20kg Kob, 30kg Sand Sharks, and more.

Vila Mia is very centrally located in the Small Town of St Lucia Estuary. Offering cozy comfortable self-catering accommodation to the family holidaymaker. Villa Mia is one or two-bedroom units sleeping four or six people. Pricing is done in such a manner that it includes school-going children in the base price. House cleaning is available to any guests at their request. Self-catering is a concept that lives in the hearts of all Travelers and holidaymakers. We all want our space and privacy.

About Villa Mia

Villa Mia consists of 25 sectional title Apartments and is sold out to individual owners. These owners treat these apartments as an investment and their home away from home. When one sleeps here it is as if you are sleeping over in someone else's house. Holiday Letting through Sectional Title is not a commercially driven enterprise, but rather a unique opportunity to stay over as a guest in someone's house.

Remember you living inside someone else's dream and they offer you the opportunity to share in it. Please report all breakages to 4u2Stay so we can replace it as soon as possible in an attempt to give the next guest sharing this self-catering Apartment the same valued experience.

No Rehabilitation in Sight

Purely Man Made Manipulation

To claim that this is rehabilitation is total bullshit. It saddens me that UNESCO supports this lie. This is man made manipulation of the truth. Nothing Less Nothing More. It is believed that Mr Zaloumis is well spoken in the art of manipulation. One resident claims that Mr Zaloumis has disclosed to him that as long as you give people hope you can manipulate their support. Well since he is a self proclaimed Gun Runner off the ANC Regime it is clear that he is walking their walk and talking their talk. He also seems to be very good at it.

Well I never though that Conspiracy at this scale is possible, but neither can I believe that all this is a coincident. True it could be that the major role players in the Industry is oblivious to what they are part taking in or it could be that they stupid enough to be manipulated. Either way we have to be careful on who we give our public support to.

               083 584 7473

Now I am not one vetting for public support, but it is clear some one has to state the facts regarding fishing and angling rights and environmental management and affairs. The final evidence that produced my Mr Richard Pen-sawyer on behalf of the state  that permanently closed our recreational use of 4x4 vehicles on the beach ... was a little crab that lived in the mud banks between the iMfolozi and St Lucia Estuary. Since the assistance of this little  crab is so insignificant to iSimangaliso Wetland Park and UNESCO I personally don't see any reasons to keep 4x4 Recreational users of the beaches any more.

Further this bull shit of Catch and Release as per World Best Practice needs to be addressed. The Recreational Fishing Industry is the fastest and biggest out door sport in the World. We are handing our rights to share in this Industry to By Catches on Huge Trawlers that indiscriminately over fish our coast lines or quotas allocated to them on biggest bribe biggest quota system. This has the result of the Recreational Rock and Surf angler that has to over compensate in allocated bag limits and over regulated fraternity.

Bruce Mann for one is totally biased towards over regulating the Recreational Rock and Surf Angler.  It may secure a well funded life style for him, but it is robbing a well balanced poor and under fed society all along the coastal regions. This has pulled the plug on many Domestic Tourism ventures around the country and with its most devastating impact on rural and remote destinations.

We must re think on who we give our public support to. Public perception plays a major role in decisions making. If we do not know what the facts are we should not get involved.

Dinosaurs, a Fishy Tale

Most likely the most unusual animal found in the ocean at St. Lucia.

In 1984 I found myself in East London, South Africa, a small city with not much going on. Museums are interesting to me, especially the Natural History section and for a small place East London has an excellent one.

There I found out about and saw a stuffed  dinosaur fish, the Coelacanth. Scientist though that it had gone extinct along with the other dinosaurs 65 million years back. But then on 23 December 1938, the first Latimeria specimen was found off the east coast of South Africa. A Rhodes University ichthyologist, J.L.B. Smith, confirmed the fish’s importance with a famous cable: “MOST IMPORTANT PRESERVE SKELETON AND GILLS = FISH DESCRIBED”.

No internet in 1984.

This is the Coelacanth preserved and on view at the East London Museum. Photo courtesy of eastlondon.org.za

The first recorded Coelacanth fossil, found in Australia, was of a jaw that dated back 360 million years, the fossil record is unique because Coelacanth fossils were found 100 years before the first live specimen was identified.
Ironically, the dinosaur fish is at risk of becoming, really extinct this time.  Fishermen sometimes snag a Coelacanth instead of an oilfish because they traditionally fish at night, when oilfish and Coelacanths feed. Before scientists became interested in Coelacanths, they were thrown back into the water if caught. They are no good for eating apparently. Now that there is an interest in them, fishermen trade them in to scientists or other officials once they have been caught. So the very people that should want to preserve the species is the biggest threat to this dinosaur fish.

A Day in the life ... Tour Guide

St. Lucia Lake Cruises
St. Lucia Estuary
The Elephant Coast
South Africa

Cape Vidal beach area is lovely during the winter months. Summer on these beaches are extremely hot and people are warned to stay out of the sun between 11h00 and 14h00. This is the launching site where many ski boats launch from. The shark attack that was recorded in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park happened 23 km North of this popular swimming and Snorkelling beach.

Lazy sun bathers can be seen from the launch tours in St. Lucia. These guys are basking in the winter sun, but are still on the hunt from time to time and lately some Water Buck have met there fate while crossing the bar ... ???

Some things are best left for the safety of your pool. What ever this Water Buck had planned no one will know, but Derick assure me that he safely escaped a crawling creepy submerged in the fresh water that now dominate the upper parts of the Estuary.

Flight of Th Fish Eagle ???

Tea party alla Saint Lucia style. We know that there is more ladies in this pod since the dominant male, Vincent are very protective of his "brothel" of babes.

To embark on a lazy Lake Cruise with Captain Deiric Walsh one should book through the offices of St. Lucia Safaris and asked to embark on a world famous Hippo Cruise With Deiric.

iSimangaliso Disicions that sucks Big Time...!!!

The iSimangaliso Wetlands Park authority is under public scrutiny over its loco standing and management decisions. It is clear that they are very controversial in their draconian leadership and scientific applications of  human interference and greater human impact control. How ever people over look man made mistakes and hammer on the negative natural influences that have been haunting St. Lucia Estuary and The Greater Wetland Park for centuries.

One huge environmental blunder changing the World Heritage Site and its specie list for ever was the scuttling of the two massive barges that was beached just North of Cape Vidal in 2008. The question remains if a scientific entity like ORI was consulted and a proper EIA was devised and followed. The reason why the impact of this blunder is so severe is the fact that it was never disclosed if the Ballast water was drained or sanitized before the barges and their foreign content was let loose on a very fragile World Heritage Site.

Since artificial reeves are known to carry a higher than normal capacity of marine life this reeves has also contributed to the increase of marine life.

"A new species of blenny was found and is currently being described by specialists of the Smithsonian Institute in the USA. Results of this trip and future annual trips will allow us to document temporal changes in the artificial reef community. Moreover, researchers from the Department of Environment Affairs’ Marine and Coastal Management will get involved using various sonar tagging technologies to investigate the movement patterns of fish from and to the barges."       read more ...

Wikepedia: The common name blenny is ambiguous at best, as it has been applied to several families of perciform marine, brackish and some freshwater fishes all sharing similar morphology (shape) and behaviour. There are six families considered "true blennies", all grouped together under the suborder Blennioidei; its members are referred to as blennioids. There are approximately 833 species in 130 genera within the suborder.

Since it is not clear and very little disclosure is offered to which sub specie was introduced to to this fragile eco system we cannot comment on the impact it might have over a long term period. By way of deduction we can valuate that this is detrimental to the environment by the strict monitoring imposed on this artificial reef.
