St Lucia Estuary
02 November 2015
Water Levels in The ESTUARY (Not as some tour guides and iSimangaliso refer to as "Lake") is at an all time low.
This is sad and nothing short of a disaster. For 15 years a very small group off people has manipulated this fragile ecosystem for what can only be explained as "The Paul Watson Syndrome".
Now this is a very complex syndrome but it is well deployed by its author Paul Watson. Paul Watson's most famous words is ... "Due to the nature of mass media the truth is irrelevant."
Well Paul Watson makes millions of Dollars from all over the World in the form of Sympathy Donations.
The louder the out cry the more money is donated from all walks off life.
In this case we are facing an Ecological Disaster for Generations to come and yet for 15 years, since the beach ban. Very little money was spend on Estuary Maintenance.
Many years ago the beach driving permits sponsored the St Lucia Estuary Mouth Maintenance Plan.
This was a very basic plan. The Ocean washes sediment into the system. The sediment is trapped in a sediment pond/pit in front of the Ski Boat Club and pumped out to the ocean.
Why was this plan abandoned before a new one was implemented?
